What is Perimenopause?
Perimenopause is the years during which a woman's body begins to transition into menopause, usually starting somewhere in her 40's.
This includes early onset menopause, induced and temporary menopause. It is a time when our estrogen levels become inconsistent, resulting in spotting or heavier and prolonged bleeding. Our breasts can feel more tender and sensitive. During this time, we might experience our first hot flashes or night sweats.
The onset of symptoms indicates that our ovaries are producing less progesterone and estrogen, the female hormones. This process can have little or no effect on some of us, while our friends might suffer a little more intensely. This stage can be a time when symptoms are most noticeable.
Maintaining a healthy lifestyle is so important at this stage. The earlier that premenopause symptoms appear, the greater the risk for bone loss and other medical conditions because the ovaries are producing less estrogen. This might be a good time to adjust your diet, to make sure your body is getting all the vitamins and minerals it needs to stay healthy and strong.
