Why Does Menopause Occur?
When a female is born, her body already knows how many eggs it will produce. Menopause occurs when your body produces less estrogen, signaling to your body the end of egg production. Once a woman begins this transition naturally, it cannot be stopped. For women who have not yet had children, this can cause them some distress.
Medical reasons, such as a hysterectomy (removal of a woman's uterus), can induce menopause. Following surgery, women will immediately begin to feel the symptoms of menopause because of the sudden decrease in estrogen levels. Chemotherapy and pelvic radiation can also result in menopause, if only temporary. Periods can resume once the body begins to recover from the treatments.
The thing to remember is that menopause is going to occur. Many women fear its arrival probably because of all the bad press it gets. If you survived years of menstrual cycles, you'll survive menopause. Your body is doing naturally what it's supposed to do, so now it's time to provide it with some much needed attention and care.
