Surviving Hot Flashes and Night Sweats

Hot flashes and night sweats seem to get the most attention out of all the menopausal symptoms. The last thing women want is to resemble that cartoon character with smoke coming out of our ears and the top of our heads blowing off. It does seem like sometimes that is what it feels like. About 75 percent of American women suffer from this symptom during menopause.

Heat rushing from your toes to the top of your head is what a hot flush feels like. The temperature of your skin heats up but not your internal body temperature. Fluctuating levels of estrogen are most probably the reason. These episodes don't last long but when we are experiencing them, it can feel like forever. Eventually your body will cool off and get back to normal.

This same feeling happens while you sleep. This disruption in your sleep can lead to other issues. Moodiness, emotional problems and poor memory can be blamed on a lack of a good night's sleep. Doing as many things as possible to keep you comfortable at night will also benefit you during the day.
